Kevin Smith; Director

Mr. Smith commenced his career in 1986 at the London based J F Chown & Company (now Chown Dewhurst LLP) as an economist, where he provided currency analysis to various financial institutions, and contributed to numerous Economist publications. In 1988, Mr. Smith left J F Chown for Allied Dunbar Asset Management’s Asian equity team where he developed specialist knowledge of the equity markets in Asia Pacific.

Mr. Smith joined the Asian Equity team of F&C Investment Management in 1993 where he was responsible for managing various equity portfolios for institutional and retails clients and ultimately served as a Director of F&C Asian Emerging Markets Limited, having US$2bn of assets under his direct management. In 2000, Mr. Smith joined Standard Life Investments (Asia) Limited, where he served as the CEO with the responsibility of all investment and business development activities undertaken in the region. Earlier during his time at Standard Life, he was the Head of Emerging Markets and Global Head of Stock Selection in Asia. In addition to these roles, he developed a business plan for Standard Life’s expansion in Asia through which he established the Hong Kong office in 2001, with representative offices in Beijing and Seoul. In 2003, Mr. Smith was appointed as a non-executive director of Standard Life (Asia) Limited.
Between 2004 and 2007, Mr. Smith served as the Equities Chief Investment Officer for ABN AMRO Asset Management where he was responsible for all equity, listed property and alternative investments, managing in excess of €75bn. In addition, he co-chaired the Asset Allocation Committee, was a director of ABN AMRO Asset Management, and a member of the Global Management Team.

Mr. Smith is currently a member of the Investment Committee of The Royal British Legion and a senior advisor to Kreab Gavin Anderson in Hong Kong.

Mr. Smith holds a BSc in Economics with first class honours from Brunel University in London.
